Background: 

The Young Scientists Study Tour selects about 20 secondary school students to participate in the science tour during summer holidays to foster the pursuit of science knowledge among students, to enhance their presentation and communication skills, and to nurture young scientists in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Science Museum and the Education Bureau are jointly organising the SciPOP Science Demonstration Contest and the Young Scientists Study Tour 2026 with the theme of “Artificial intelligence”. Students with good performance at the contest will qualify for the study tour to Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hangzhou, where they will visit scientific institutions and science centres and meet the experts working in the fields of AI and advanced technology. After the tour, students will have the opportunity to present their learning outcomes in a sharing session.

Details:

-        To assist the staff of the Science Museum in leading and taking care of the students, and handling various issues during study tour.

-        To monitor students’discipline during the tour.

-        Must attend all related activities (dates to be confirmed):

          1. Pre-tour briefing (8 or 15 July 2026)

          2. Young Scientists Study Tour (23 – 29 July 2026)

          3. Post-tour sharing (August 2026)

-         The Science Museum will provide board and lodging for the volunteers during the tour.

-         The volunteers are required to pay for their own travel insurance and two single-trip tickets: from Guangzhou to Hangzhou and from Hangzhou to Hong Kong (including taxes and surcharges, the cost of air tickets is estimated to be around HK$3,400). The air tickets will be arranged by the Science Museum.

Location: 

-         Hong Kong Science Museum (2 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon, Hong Kong)

-         Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hangzhou (to be confirmed)

No. of volunteers (Max. Capacity): 2-4 persons

Requirement:

-         Fluent in spoken Cantonese and with a good command of Putonghua.

-         Priority will be given to:

          a. In-service and retired secondary school teachers.

          b. those with experience in organising academic or cultural exchange programmes.

          c. those who have provided volunteer services to the Science Museum through MVS before.

-         Polite with good communication skills and service manner.

Interview:

The applicants deemed more suitable will be invited to attend interview (6 or 13 May 2026). Selection Criteria:

1. Meeting the priority requirements

2. Experience in leading groups and coordinating group activity

3. Manner, interpersonal and communication skills

4. Clear understanding of service requirements and knowledge to the subject

Registration: Please submit the completed online registration form by 12:00 nn on 24 April 2026 (Friday).  

Notes: The MVS Secretariat will notify suitable candidates for interview by e-mail on or before 29 April 2026 (Wednesday). Activities are subject to change; the Secretariat’s announcements are final.
