[Registration closed](MVS20250902)Science Promotion Unit: “DIY Glow Pen” Workshop

Background: To complement with Muse Fest HK 2025, the Science Promotion Unit of the Hong Kong Science Museum will organise a “DIY Glow Pen” Workshop. Participants can create their own glow-in-the-dark pen with phosphorescent powder and glitter, learn about the scientific concept of luminescence, differentiate between fluorescence and phosphorescence, and understand the underlying scientific principles.

Details:

To assist in running the workshop through the following duties:

-         Teaching and assist participants in making the Glow-in-the-dark pens

-         Assisting in crowd control and maintaining order during the activities

-         Answering simple enquiries

-         Taking photos of the programmes

-         Conducting surveys

-         Briefly explain to participants the scientific principles behind fluorescence and phosphorescence

-         Assisting in venue set up (such as relocating tables and chairs may be required)

Date: 

8 November 2025 (Saturday)

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Location: 

Hong Kong Science Museum (2 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon)

No. of volunteers required: 10 persons  

Requirement:    

-         Fluent in spoken Cantonese. Able to communicate with visitors in simple Putonghua and English is preferred

-         Polite and has good interpersonal and communication skills as well as a good customer service manner

-         Form 5 or above

-         Priority will be given to those who have a science background and experience in organising activities

Briefing

*All successful applicants are required to attend the briefing session to learn more about the service details.

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Hong Kong Science Museum

Details: Staff from the Hong Kong Science Museum will introduce the content, service details, points to note, and the related information of the workshop. 

*The briefing will be conducted in Cantonese.

Registration: Please submit the completed online registration form by 12:00 nn on 3 October 2025 (Friday).

Notes: If the number of applications received exceeds the quota, the MVS Secretariat will draw lots to select the participants. The successful applicants will be notified of the result by e-mail on or before 15 October 2025 (Wednesday).  The unsuccessful applicants will also be notified by email separately. Activities are subject to change, please refer to the Secretariat’s announcements as final.
