Background: Renowned as a “Food Paradise”, Hong Kong boasts a rich and diverse culinary culture. Our beloved delicacies are not only part of everyday life but also a major draw for tourists worldwide. From the fluffy pineapple buns and invigorating milk tea of iconic Cha Chaan Tengs (tea restaurants), to the springy fish balls and polarising stinky tofu found on bustling streets, each dish holds fascinating scientific secrets. The QK POST – “The Science of Local Flavours” exhibition showcases these iconic local foods as its theme, inviting visitors to explore the microbial activity and chemical reactions that shape their flavours and textures. The exhibition offers a scientific perspective on what makes Hong Kong’s tastes truly unique.
To enhance the interactive experience, the exhibition also features the “Pineapple Bun Keyring DIY Workshop”, where participants craft their own miniature pineapple buns from flour clay while learning about the role of flour in forming the perfect dough.
