Background: The Hong Kong Space Museum houses two exhibition halls, namely the "Hall of the Cosmos" and the "Hall of Space Exploration", featuring around a hundred exhibits. With the aid of interesting hands-on exhibits, the exhibitions introduce astronomy and space science in an engaging way.
The Space Museum also organises special exhibitions on diverse themes to further enhance the public's understanding and appreciation of astronomy. The upcoming special exhibition in late September, will shed light on China's remarkable achievements in exploring the Moon and Mars in recent years.
To ensure the smooth operation of these exhibition halls, the Museum invites museum volunteers to assist visitors in interacting with the exhibits featured in the special exhibition, as well as the "Solar Telescope" display in the Hall of the Cosmos, and to share the scientific insights underlying these exhibits.

Time:
Monday, Wednesday to Friday
- Afternoon session: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, Sunday and public holiday
- Morning session: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Afternoon session: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
*During the duty, volunteers are required to
take turns explaining the exhibits in the special exhibition and the
"Solar Telescope", with short breaks provided in between.
Location: Foyer and the “Hall of the Cosmos”of Hong Kong Space Museum (10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui) No. of volunteers required: 2 persons per session |
Requirement:
- Fluent in spoken Cantonese/Putonghua and able to communicate with visitors in simple English
- Polite and has good interpersonal and communication skills as well as good customer service manner
- Form 5 or above (persons who have studied science subjects are preferable)
- Assistant curator of the museum will introduce the special exhibition, demonstrate and explain the operation of exhibits during the “MVS ── Induction Training Programme: Hong Kong Space Museum" on 12 November 2024. Volunteers who have attended the training will be given priority in participating in this service.
- Details of the service and reference notes of the exhibitions will be sent to successful applicants via email later.
Registration: Please submit the completed online registration form by 23:59 pm on 1 October 2024 (Tuesday).
Notes: If the number of applications received exceeds the quota, the MVS Secretariat will draw lots to select the participants. The successful applicants will be notified of the result by e-mail on or before 4 November 2024 (Monday). The unsuccessful applicants will also be notified by email separately. Activities are subject to change, please refer to the Secretariat’s announcements as final.
