Background: The "Reading & Re-reading: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy" exhibition explores the historic union of literature and art, inviting visitors to reconnect with the foundational memories of their youth.


The exhibition will be held in three phases, each featuring around 60 selected Chinese painting and calligraphy works from the Xubaizhai Collection and other HKMoA’s collection. It takes visitors into the spiritual world of the literati through four chapters: Timeless Elegance, The Way of the Gentleman, Landscape Reveries and Sentimental Years, inviting them to rediscover the timeless wisdom of the ages.


The Hong Kong Museum of Art invites volunteers to assist in the exhibition, providing on-site services for the interactive programme and reading zone.


Details:

-         To guide visitors on how to appreciate the exhibition

-         To assist in the operation of the interactive programme

-         To introduce the content in the reading zone to visitors

-         To provide customer services to visitors, answer enquiries and assist in crowd control


Date:  1 October 2026 – 31 December 2026 (Mondays to Wednesdays, Fridays to Sundays, and public holidays)


Time:  

-         1st session: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

-         2nd session: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.


Location: 

Xubaizhai Gallery of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, 2/F,

Hong Kong Museum of Art (10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Hong Kong)


No. of volunteers required:  1 person per session


Requirement: 

-         Fluent in spoken Cantonese/ Mandarin/ English

-         Polite and possesses good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as good customer service manner

-         Form 5 or above (persons who have studied subjects related to art or Chinese literature are preferable)

-         Details of the service and reference notes of the exhibitions will be sent to successful applicants via email later



Briefing

*All successful applicants are required to attend the briefing session to learn more about the service details.

Time: 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Details:  Assistant curators from the Hong Kong Museum of Art will give a brief tour of the exhibition, as well as demonstrate the operation of the interactive programme and reading zone. Points to note of the museum services will also be shared in the briefing session.


Registration: Please submit the completed online registration form by 12:00 nn on 4 September 2026 (Friday).

Notes: If the number of applications received exceeds the quota, the MVS Secretariat will draw lots to select the participants. The successful applicants will be notified of the result by e-mail on or before 16 September 2026 (Wednesday).  The unsuccessful applicants will also be notified by email separately. Activities are subject to change, please refer to the Secretariat’s announcements as final.
